6Music Introducing Mixtape

Updated: Apr 4, 2019

I'm so excited that Bad Indie Movie was featured on the BBC Introducing mixtape on 6Music. Tom Robinson announced it as the most imaginative record he'd heard all week - if not all year.

This is extraordinary praise coming from someone who listens to hundreds of tracks every week through his Fresh on the Net site. Tom also liked it enough to feature it on the Saturday preview show that airs at 9pm the day before the mixtape goes out, which I only found out a few weeks later (because I am me, and late to the party is my middle name). But that made the good news EVEN BETTER.

6music has been so important to me in my own music-making journey. When I began writing my own songs & singing them in public (which was only 5 years ago but feels a lot longer) I would have weed my pants if you told me something I created would get played on a station I love so much, whose diversity and passion and breadth in many ways was the reason I felt it was ok to start making my own weird tunes in the first place.

I am happy to report that, in the event, this did *not* happen. However, the prospect of being played on national radio was remote enough, even a year ago, that now I'm not quite sure what to do with myself. Wait for death? Crochet?

I'll carry on making music I suppose, but as the shows only stick around on iPlayer for a month I've ripped the audio to play it back in the long nights when the Doubts come round for a chat & tell me to sack the whole thing off.

In any case, thank you to Tom & 6music! Your commitment to independent artists gives us the chance to be heard.
